Reagan Corbett, a native Houstonian, grew up believing painting was her personal weakness, but at the age of 19 embraced her artistic passions and set out to fulfill her dream. A recent graduate of The University of Texas at Austin’s Studio Art Program, Reagan credits her open-minded attitude, courageous acts, and ability to voice her opinions to art; a love she is fortunate to surround herself with on a daily basis.

Now at the age of 22, Reagan plans to continue making art the rest of her life, with a goal of landing her artwork in famous museums across the country such as the Austin staple, The Blanton. We sat down with Reagan to learn more about her inspirations, coffee habits, and what being a maker means to her.

What is a mantra that you live by? 

Treat others the way you want to be treated!

Where do you find your biggest inspiration? 

My inspiration is constantly evolving, but as of now I am inspired by history through a feminist lens, and my day-to-day visual media stream. The combination of both of these are what serve as the basis to creating my own compositions.

What’s your favorite way to drink coffee? 

In the morning, checking e-mails or on the go, with a splash of coconut milk & a straw! Whether it’s cold brew or a hot cup, I always use a straw!

What’s your go-to Austin hotspot? 

Justine’s on E 5th St. I would live there if I could.

What does being a “maker” mean to you? 

Being a maker means that I have the opportunity to share my talents and ideas with the rest of the world. During this period of social change, my ambition is to influence the way people think and perceive the world around them, specifically regarding the role of women. As a maker of art, I am consistently exploring new ways to share emotionally engaging and conceptually unique pieces from the perspective of feminist and womanist ideals.
